Applications Open for QLD Uni Team
APPLICATIONS are now open for the 2014 Queensland Universities team that will play a curtain raiser to a Broncos game and give players the chance at an overseas tour with the national side in October.
Both university and TAFE students have the opportunity to apply for this team that has a long history of rivalry with NSW.
The annual Queensland Universities versus NSW Tertiaries match has been set down for Friday May 16 as a warm-up to the Brisbane Broncos-Gold Coast Titans game at Suncorp Stadium.
From that match an Australian Universities squad will be selected for an overseas tour at the conclusion of the rugby league season.
The tour is likely to travel to either South Africa or Fiji, with the destination still to be finalised.
To be eligible for the Queensland side, players must be completing full-time tertiary education within any Queensland University, TAFE or recognised College or Tertiary institution.
All applicants must be completing a diploma level course or higher or working towards a University Degree (note: a number of Certificate IV courses will qualify).
Included in your commitment to this team will be a camp that will be based in Brisbane and run from the morning of Tuesday, May 13, until Saturday morning, May 17.
The camp will be highly subsidised by the URLQ but a levy of between $750-850 per player will be payable. This will include all meals, accommodation and team apparel for the camp.
Playing applications will close strictly on Friday March 14, with the coach for the Queensland team to be announced next month.
To apply for the Queensland Universities team, please fill in the application at the Australian University Sport website here: http://www.unisport.com.au/Events/aussanctionedevents/Pages/URLQ.aspx
Additionally, a Queensland Universities Residents side to be chosen from the Universities Rugby League Queensland competition will also compete this year.
They will play a NSW Residents side at Coffs Harbour in July.
